Miki Kataoka Copperplate Print Exhibition
GLASSES

- Venue:
- NEUTRAL, Horikawa New Culture Bldg 2F, Kyoto
Shokodo Kyoto and NEUTRAL are proud to present “Glasses”, an exhibition of copperplate prints by Miki Kataoka.
Miki Kataoka was born in Fukui Prefecture and studied Japanese painting in Kyoto before specializing in copperplate printmaking. The motifs of her works, rendered in an elaborate aquatint technique, become a medium for her to depict light. She allows her subjects to simply exist in her prints, almost in recognition of the elusiveness of their full essence.
In a solo exhibition held in September 2022, she utilized an entire traditional Kyoto machiya building, transforming it into an exhibition space centered around the tokonoma (an alcove found in traditional Japanese houses).
In this exhibition, her works will be displayed on the walls of the gallery, providing an opportunity to see them in a different environment. Due to the extensive time required to create her copperplate prints, the number of her works is limited, and occasions to view them are rare. We invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to view her highly acclaimed work.
