Shokodo is pleased to present an exhibition of works by lacquer artist Mio Heki.
“Our choices are influenced by our interactions with others. Boundaries merge and dissolve as we explore the ways of the world. What precisely exists when we engage with others like cells that break down and reassemble to construct the self? My goal is to capture and preserve each expression that emerges as layers of lacquer, paint and raw material come into contact with one another; to find ways to let it all exist within a thin, membranous layer.” — Mio Heki
