Today, the war of kaiju in my heart

Masanori Hata

This book is based on “suicide with a mirror,” an artist book created by photographer Masanori Hata in 2016, to which the artist added his own handwritten traces. The titular “kaiju” refers to bug-like creatures from Japanese folklore. The book’s starting point is the question of what the world would look like if they were real rather than fictitious.

To maintain the atmosphere of the original artist book, various attempts and techniques have been incorporated into the binding of this book. The original paper stains are left as they are or printed directly, while different papers are sandwiched or glued, and a variety of printing processes such as silkscreen printing, foil stamping, UV silk, scratching, phosphorescent printing, and transparent silk are used. The cover is hand-finished by the artist, with each copy featuring a unique design.
